Museums have pasts.
Museum History is an independent editorial project about how Egyptian collections acquired buildings, categories, audiences and public meaning.
What we study
Each dossier follows an institutional problem: where objects were kept, why a building was commissioned, who advocated for a collection, how display design changed, or what happened when heritage was moved. The ancient object is not our only subject; catalogues, architecture, transport and administration are evidence too.
What we do not do
We do not sell admission, rank museums or represent a cultural authority. Practical visitor information appears only where it clarifies historical change and should always be verified with the institution.
Why six museums
The first edition compares six contrasting formations rather than pretending to be exhaustive: a nineteenth-century antiquities collection, a community-rooted museum, a selective regional display, a museum shaped by rescue and displacement, a civilization museum, and a multi-decade mega-project.
